Every person on the planet struggles with things on the day to day basis. It could be mental disorders, family issues, work issues, money problems, and so many others. Edgar Allan Poe writes a short story of man who goes completely insane in the process of committing a murder. Poe portrays this unnamed narrator as a person who struggles with morality, or the distinction between good and evil and right and wrong. Sometimes this struggle overtakes a person, and the evil within is brought to the surface. Poe’s short story shows readers that there is evil in everyone and that everyone struggles with morality. In this twisted and dark short story, â€Å"The Tell-Tale Heart,† a common theme, the struggle with morality, is shown through the narrator’s†¦show more content†¦Morality is the distinction between right and wrong, or good and evil. In this story, the narrator chooses evil and wrongdoings because of a characteristic of the man he lives with. Claiming t hat he loved the old man, the narrator says that he does not want any of his possessions. This good feeling takes an unfortunate and evil turn as the narrator tries to rid himself of the old man’s â€Å"Evil Eye.† Every action the narrator takes to rid himself of the eye proves that he struggled with morality. The only mentioned reason for murdering the old man is because the narrator fears the old man’s eye. He calls it a vulture eye because of its film covered, pale blue color (Poe). Poe also explains how the insane narrator decides to go about murdering an innocent old man. The fact that the narrator also watched the old man for seven nights straight also shows that he had a huge struggle (Poe). The theme of the struggle with morality is shown through the narrator’s wavering feelings towards the old man; the narrator says he loves the old man, but then kills him for the reason that he fears the old man’s eye. Unavoidable guilt is the main feelin g the narrator senses in this short story; therefore, his guilt shows that he struggled with morality. At first the narrator was calm and fine with murdering a man who has never wronged him; however, after the deed is done, the narrator feels completely guilty about the murder. My thoughts and feelings are scattered within yelping, barking, and screaming. A little scream escapes from my mouth, flowing over my tongue. I looked down, noticing the tear. I could say it was mountainous, in a disgusting, never been explored sort of way. That’s when I turned away, unable to bear it any longer. I could feel it escaping, flowing, ragi ng rapids of my own crimson blood tricking down my arm.
